How to Energy Clear Your Space: A Simple Ritual for a Lighter, More Peaceful Home
Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt like the energy was… off?
Maybe your home feels heavy after an argument. Perhaps you've been going through a stressful or emotional period. Or maybe you simply feel like your space could use a little energetic refresh.
Just like we regularly clean, organize, and refresh our physical spaces, we can also create rituals that help us intentionally reset the energy of our environment.
At Aura Luna Energy Healing, space clearing is one of my favorite ways to create a more peaceful, intentional atmosphere. Whether you're moving into a new home, starting a new chapter, or simply want to clear out stagnant energy, a simple energy-clearing ritual can become a beautiful part of your self-care practice.
And the best part? You don't need anything complicated.
A few intentional tools, an open window, and your own energy and intention are enough to get started.
✨ What Is Energy Clearing?
Energy clearing is the practice of intentionally refreshing the energetic atmosphere of a space.
From a spiritual perspective, many traditions believe that our environments can hold onto energetic impressions from the people, emotions, experiences, and activities that happen within them.
Think about how a room can feel after an argument compared to how it feels after laughing with friends, lighting a candle, opening the windows, and playing your favorite music.
The physical room may look exactly the same— but the atmosphere feels completely different.
Energy clearing is a way of intentionally shifting that atmosphere and creating a space that feels more aligned with how you want to feel.
You might choose to clear your space when:
-
You're moving into a new home
-
You've had guests over
-
You've experienced an argument or difficult conversation
-
You've been feeling emotionally drained
-
You're beginning a new chapter of your life
-
You're practicing meditation, yoga, or energy work
-
You want to create a more peaceful bedroom
-
You're feeling like your home feels heavy or stagnant
-
You're simply craving a fresh energetic start
There is no "wrong" time to clear your space.
Sometimes, you don't need a reason at all.
If your space doesn't feel like it feels good to you, that's reason enough.
🌙 Your Simple Space-Clearing Ritual
You can make this ritual as elaborate or as simple as you'd like.
For the Aura Luna approach, I recommend working with three beautiful energetic tools:
Sage • Palo Santo • Selenite
I've created an Aura Luna Energy Clearing Bundle that includes all three so you have everything you need to create your own space-clearing ritual at home.

Let's walk through the ritual.
Step 1: Physically Clean Your Space
Before clearing the energetic atmosphere of your home, start with the physical environment.
Put away clutter. Take out the trash. Wipe down surfaces. Open the curtains.
You don't need to deep-clean your entire house.
Even something as simple as making your bed, clearing your countertops, or tidying the room you're working in can help create a feeling of renewal.
Think of it as preparing a blank canvas.
Clear the physical space so you can intentionally clear the energetic space.
Step 2: Open a Window
Before you begin, open a window or door if weather and safety allow.
This gives the smoke somewhere to move and creates a beautiful symbolic intention:
Out with what no longer serves me.
In with fresh, peaceful energy.
You can also turn on a fan if needed to help with ventilation.
If you are sensitive to smoke, have respiratory concerns, live with pets or children who may be affected by smoke, or simply don't enjoy smoke, you can absolutely create a smoke-free clearing ritual instead. Your intention is more important than the tool you use.
🔥 Step 3: Begin With Sage
Light your sage and allow it to catch briefly before gently blowing out the flame so that it begins to produce smoke.
Move slowly and intentionally around your space.
You don't need to fill the entire room with smoke.
Instead, allow the smoke to gently move through the areas you'd like to clear.
Pay particular attention to:
-
Corners
-
Doorways
-
Windows
-
Hallways
-
Entryways
-
Areas where people frequently gather
-
Your bedroom
-
Your meditation or healing space
As you move through your home, set an intention for what you're releasing.
You might say:
"I release any energy from this space that no longer serves me. I clear what is heavy, stagnant, or unwanted and create space for peace, love, protection, and light."
There is no magic phrase you have to say.
Use whatever words feel authentic to you.
The most important part is your intention.
A note about sage
Sage has been used in various Indigenous and cultural traditions for generations, and some forms of ceremonial burning are sacred practices that should be approached respectfully.
For a home ritual, choose ethically and sustainably sourced sage and avoid treating sacred traditions as simply a trend or aesthetic.
🌿 Step 4: Bring in Palo Santo
Once you've completed your sage clearing, allow the smoke to settle and transition into your next intention.
Light your Palo Santo and gently blow out the flame once it catches.
Move through your space again, allowing the beautiful aroma to fill the room.
Rather than focusing solely on removing energy, use this part of your ritual to focus on what you want to invite in.
You might visualize:
✨ Peace
✨ Protection
✨ Love
✨ Abundance
✨ Joy
✨ Creativity
✨ Grounding
✨ Healing
✨ Connection
✨ New beginnings
Try saying:
"I welcome peace, love, protection, abundance, and beautiful energy into this space. May this home be a place of safety, healing, joy, and light."
Imagine the energy of your home becoming lighter and brighter as you move through each room.
🤍 Step 5: Finish With Selenite
This is one of my favorite parts of the ritual.
Selenite is often associated in crystal practices with cleansing, purification, clarity, and energetic protection.
Take your selenite wand and slowly move through your space.
You can imagine the wand acting like an energetic broom, sweeping away anything that feels stagnant or heavy.
Move it around:
-
Doorways
-
Windows
-
Corners
-
Your bed
-
Your workspace
-
Your meditation area
-
Your personal healing space
You can also hold the wand in your hands for a few moments and take several slow breaths.
Imagine a beautiful white light surrounding your body and your home.
Visualize your space feeling:
Clear.
Light.
Peaceful.
Protected.
Grounded.
✨ Step 6: Set Your Final Intention
Once you've finished clearing your space, take a moment to stand or sit quietly.
Close your eyes.
Take three slow, deep breaths.
Notice how the room feels.
You may notice that it feels lighter. You may feel calmer. You may feel nothing at all.
There is no specific sensation you're supposed to experience.
Simply allow yourself to be present.
Then set one final intention for your home.
For example:
"This is a space of peace, love, healing, and protection. Only energy that supports my highest good is welcome here."
Take another deep breath.
And that's it.
Your ritual is complete.
🌙 How Often Should You Energy Clear Your Home?
There isn't a specific schedule you need to follow.
Some people enjoy clearing their home once a week. Others do it monthly, seasonally, or whenever their space feels energetically heavy.
You might also consider clearing your space after:
-
A difficult emotional experience
-
An argument
-
Having a lot of visitors
-
Moving into a new home
-
A breakup or major life transition
-
Illness or a stressful period
-
Decluttering your home
-
Hosting a large gathering
-
Beginning a new chapter
-
Returning home after traveling
I personally love using the changing seasons as an opportunity to reset the energy of my home.
You don't have to wait until your space feels heavy.
Energy clearing can also be a ritual of maintenance—an intentional way of keeping your environment feeling peaceful and aligned.
🔮 Create Your Own Sacred Space
Your home doesn't have to look like a meditation retreat to feel sacred.
Your sacred space might be your bedroom.
It might be the corner where you drink your morning coffee.
It might be your altar, your yoga mat, your bathtub, or the chair where you curl up with a book.
What matters is how the space makes you feel.
Consider adding things that help you connect with the energy you want to cultivate:
🕯️ Candles
💎 Crystals
🌿 Plants
🎶 Sound or music
🌙 Moonlight
✨ Soft lighting
📿 Meaningful objects
🌸 Fresh flowers
🧘♀️ Meditation or breathwork
Your environment can become an extension of your energetic practice.

🌙 A Final Reminder
Energy clearing isn't about being afraid of "negative energy."
It's about intention.
It's about creating a ritual that helps you pause, reconnect with yourself, release what you're ready to let go of, and consciously invite in what you want more of.
Sometimes the most powerful shift begins with something as simple as opening a window and saying:
"I'm ready for something new."
